Smith’s Daybreak Mural
5 x 12 feet
Acrylic
My imagery in this mural depicts the established agricultural heritage of the Daybreak area and the current gathering of a diverse community of people and neighborhoods, with the Oquirrh Mountains as a backdrop. The Jordan River is there, too, portrayed with fish in the flowing water. In the sky, I have painted the sun and moon, symbolizing the passage of time.
You’ll find a barn and granary, a cow, a chicken and egg, an apple, a pear, a plum and a carrot. There is a row of beets growing in the earth, a tomato, peas and lettuces, conveying the theme of healthy food produced in a place of beauty and abundance. I was the selected artist commissioned by the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA).
